Top platform is too narrow and unstable and the cats will not use it for relaxing or stay on it for more than a few minutes. The main defects are: (1) platform instability when cat sits on it -- it seems to have been designed with the idea of no cat on the top tier. (2) base is too light and tips over. Armarkat: It sounds like you bought a Kitten Scratcher, expecting it to be a full-size scratcher for adult cats. That is why it is so small. I have an very large cat, and this model is a little small for him, but he does still use it. Too bad there is not a tree for fat cats.
