It doesn’t stay open at all so they mostly just lay on it. It’s very soft and well made. It’s warm so it’s like a floor bed. I have yet to see a kitten force her way inside it because it does close up. A shame because when I hold it open they go in it but only when I’m holding it open.
I bought this item after seeing one of my clients using it for her tiny teacup chihuahua. I bought it for my chihuahua that loves to burrow underneath the couch cover. I haven't used it yet because it is her Christmas present. My chihuahua is bigger than the teacup, but I am hoping she will love it because it will allow her to burrow and keep her warm; she gets cold very easily. My client bought it for her teacup because she also burrows in the couch covers and they were afraid of sitting on her, so this allowed her to safely burrow. Great item for little dogs and cats, of course. As a pet sitter, I highly recommend for pet parents. I'm sure this item can be used for other types of pets (not just cats and dogs) that get cold easily or that like to burrow.

Its beautiful! My cat won't go inside. She sleeps under the covers so I thought this would be perfect. How do I get her inside? ARMARKAT: Try to entice her with food, toys and treats!
My Chihuahuas love to snuggle into this bed.
I have 3 miniature dachshunds who take turns relaxing in this bed. They weigh between 9 and 15 lbs. It doesn't matter how hot it is, they love to snuggle in it. Washes beautifully.
My cat would probably give it 5 stars because she likes to sleep on it. It does not stay open as in the photo. I can squeeze the opening from the sides and it will stay open enough for her to go inside, but it will not stay open as in the photo. My house tends to be cold and she is a short haired cat. I like this "Cave bed" because it keeps her warm (when I can get her inside.)
We bought this for our 2 year old cat. It's made well and the fabric is very nice but it pretty much just flattens out. The cat won't go in it unless I put some cat nip inside. She doesn't really seem to like it and much prefers her little basket. It's more like a blanket ecause it just sinks and doesn't stand up at all. Also the color looks like a pretty blue in the photo but it's just a sage green; not very pretty at all.
